FBI agent Jane Banner recruits the help of veteran tracker Cory Lambert on a murder investigation. When the body of a young Native American woman is found, they soon uncover a deeper secret. Jane finds herself in over her head as Cory seeks redemption from an earlier tragedy.

The two leads of the film really drove this one home for me. Jeremy Renner (Cory Lambert) and Elizabeth Olsen (Jane Banner) were fantastic here! Having previously worked together on the Marvel film’s could be the reason these two are great together. Director Taylor Sheridan really took advantage of this working relationship by casting them as his leads. Actor Gil Birmingham (Martin) is a supporting actor who needs to be mentioned, for the few scenes he was in he gave one of the best emotional performances I’ve seen in a while. This is a well directed film with great performances!

My first thoughts going into this film was, how am I going to look past Renners and Olsens Hawkeye & Scarlett Witch characters they play on the MCU? Well, by being great actors as they demonstrate in Wind River, that’s how! Never once did I see them other then the roles they were playing here in this crime drama. A story inspired by true events, Taylor Sheridan captures the visceral raw emotion of loss, pain and tragedy. The murder mystery element serves only as a plot device to bring the characters to their final destination. Veteran actor Graham Greene (Ben) acts as bit of a comic relief with humor gently mixed in to the dark tone of the film. This movie hits all the right marks and has been my most surprising film of the year for me so far. A must see movie!
