After learning about the tragic news of his brother, Lawrence Talbot returns home to investigate. There, Talbot must confront his childhood demons that came after his mothers death when he was a child. But he soon discovers that a ravenous beast is on the loose and he must protect the woman he loves from it’s clutches!

This film has a small but impressive cast who brought a respectable amount of talent to this horror fantasy. At first thought, it seemed like an odd choice to cast Benicio Del Toro as Lawrence Talbot, but by the first act he had me invested in his character. Anthony Hopkins (Sir John Talbot) also brought his demanding on screen presence and it was nice to see him “let loose”! Emily Blunt (Gwen Conliffe) plays the perfect damsel in distress and plays along Del Toro great. Director Joe Johnston does a really good job here remaking a classic monster movie!

The best thing about this film to me was the updated and over all look of the Wolfman himself! This is by far one of the best looking Werewolves to hit the big screen in years. There’s also a transformation scene (pictured above) that ranks with the best of them. Its CGI heavy, but it totally works! This movie has other horror elements that come in the form of flashbacks and dream sequences that make this a true horror film. With an ending that gives us one great battle I never saw coming, well that the trailers never gave away, it was a pleasant surprise. If you didn’t see this one at the theaters and haven’t gotten around to watching it yet, give the flick a try! Specially if your a classic monster fan.
