A musician helps a young singer and actress find fame, while battling personal demons that are sending his own career into a downward spiral.

A Star is Born is Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut and I have to say, it’s not bad. I did find the film to have some pacing issues and some cut scenes that didn’t work but other then that, not bad at all. But any shortcomings by first time director Bradley Cooper were extinguished by Bradley Cooper the actor! What a performance he gave that just might be he’s best yet. When talking about performances in this film it cant go without mention that Lady Gaga (Ally) was terrific. The chemistry between the two and the dynamic of their relationship was the best part of this movie. And lets not forget Sam Elliott as Bobby, who always kicks ass in any role he plays in my opinion. A solid performance from the cast is surely going to make this film a Oscar contender without a doubt.

I was a little late seeing this film after having it on my radar for so long as one of my most anticipated movies of 2018. So glad I finally saw it, cause I really enjoyed it. And where the hell did Lady Gaga come from! I know she has some film credits to her name but it’s safe to say that this is her first major role in a feature film, and damn she knocked it out the park. Maybe Cooper tailored this role just for her and played to her strenghs or maybe she’s just a gifted natural performer, whatever the case, she was great! It was also cool to see Dave Chappelle in this even tho his screen time was that of a cameo just about. Also, I had no clue Andrew Dice Clay was in this movie, playing Ally’s dad of all people. It was cool to see both Dice and Chappelle show their dramatic chops. So other then some pacing issues I had with the film that made its 2hr and 16min run time noticeable at times this was still a very good movie. A very high 8 in fact!

Score: 8/10
