Well talk about you’re multi-genre film! This movie was one part Ray Harryhausen fantasy, one part Kung-Fu theater martial arts, and all parts entertainment. It’s an origin story that never grows stale and gives you good character development all while creating this new world steeped in Chinese lore and MCU mythology. Origin stories usually fall victims to bad pacing issues and a lengthy run time but the storytelling here is done great making it on par with the likes of Iron Man and Guardians of the Galaxy. Another great thing about this movie is the fighting.

The fighting is a mix between Chinese Boxing that you get from a Jackie Chan movie and the high flying wire stunts of a Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon film. I am not a fan of the wire stunts. However, it works here, and I’ll tell you why. This movie doesn’t try and sell you on believing that a normal human character can defy the laws of gravity through mere martial arts training. No, this film leans heavy on the fantasy and the high flying fights are more like something out of the Air Benders cartoon. While the rest of the fight scene’s are straight Jackie Chan style bare knuckle brawls with serious Kung-Fu flavor This! This movie has something for the whole family, action, drama, fantasy, and even some good humor. It’s definitely worth you’re screen time!
